What do I set my prices at?
Our pricing manager helps make price-setting both easy, flexible, and dynamic.
First, you set an 'anchor' price and an 'anchor' length. This would reflect the most typical content you have, so we call this the 'anchor archetype'.
To calculate the anchor price we have a mini-calculator in the pricing manager to help. It takes your monthly subscription cost and the average number of articles subscribers read per month to extrapolate a good first anchor price, but you can set it to whatever you want.
Second, set default pricing rules for various factors to automatically optimize pricing around the anchor price.
Set a pricing window (+/- X%) within which we dynamically optimize the price for you.
Set your word count sensitivity so that pricing adjusts based on the length of your content.
Set a time-bound premium for new content to get an extra bump in value for fresh content.
Set the value structure to match your content type, e.g. front load for news, backload for long-form content, etc.
Once you have set your anchor archetype and default pricing rules you can leave the rest to us.
Different pieces of content will be assigned different prices based on the pricing rules in place.
Similarly, different readers will receive different prices for the same content based on factors such as when they read it and where they are reading it from (e.g. US v India).
Now you can begin to test:
With the default pricing rules in place, now you can create custom pricing rules.
Use custom pricing rules if you want to have different anchor prices, pricing windows, word count sensitivity, etc., for different parts of your website and different content, e.g opinions v sport.
You can also run pricing experiments to test and compare price points and other factors so you can optimize revenue over time.
If you find a configuration of rules that brings higher revenue, you can return to the pricing manager and either add new custom rules or adjust the default anchor price and rules.
